Participate in the International Soil Moisture Network

Helping the network to grow?
International Soil Moisture Network is a community-based effort which is made possible through the voluntary contributions of many organisations around the world. In order to further expand, we are continuously looking for additional networks to participate.
Taking part in the International Soil Moisture Network offers a chance to draw broad international attention upon your network and to be involved in cutting-edge research such as the validation of new satellite missions, development of new climate change models, etc.

Participating networks will be fully acknowledged by the International Soil Moisture Network and the end users.

How can you participate?
In principle, any monitoring network is welcome to join the ISMN, regardless of the number of stations, location, or type of probe used. Participating is easy: just send us an email expressing your interest and we will check together with you if your data are appropriate. Below, you will find some instructions on the preparation of the data so we can easily include your data into the network:

What should the data look like?
Your data can be provided via a website, ftp-/http-server or sent via email to the ISMN. The files can be in different formats as long as sufficient documentation exists.
The fastest and easiest way is to send us the data in our standard format which can be found on  template_description.pdf . A detailed description of how the template is structured can be found on data_template.txt .

What should your metadata information look like?
For the metadata information of your stations (coordinates, altitude, measured layers, sensors, etc. ...) we created a spread sheet which only needs to be filled out and can then be sent to us. If you are interested in sharing data with the ISMN, please have a look at the .
