Data Download
General information
You can access all data free of charge if you are registered with ISMN. You can download and view the data on our Data Portal. For directions how to configure the download please refer to our download instructions below. Please make sure to cite the ISMN and the corresponding networks when using the ISMN data as it is laid out in our Terms and Conditions.
Anonymized and non-personal data is cached and stored subject to GDPR. Statistics from this data are used to support the providers with a half-yearly report about their network (e.g., how many downloads, flagging statistic, etc.) as well as for demonstrating the utilisation of ISMN.
Download instructions
In order to successfully download the data you are looking for please follow these steps:

Login / registration (for free)

Navigate to our Data Portal.

Click on the button "More Options" from the menu on the left-hand side in order to see all available filters for the data:
- The Networks from which you want to download data. The networks are grouped under the respective continent
- The time range for which you want to download data
- The sensor depth range from which you want to download data
- Additional variables you want to download together with soil moisture (default: soil moisture only)
- Land cover classes
- Köppen-Geiger climate classes
- The specific area from which you want to download data:
+ by drawing a rectangle (press SHIFT) or
+ by Latitude/ Longitude and click SELECT FROM INPUT - Deselect all other networks you do not want to use
- In the bottom you can find a number of soil moisture timeseries that fullfill the selected requirements
- Click on download
- Check if the input is correct
- Select your preferred format
- Click on download, if the download takes:
- < 30 seconds: direct download - a link with a zip file
- > 30 seconds: you will receive a link to a zip file with your data to the given e-mail address (data will be deleted after 3 days so please download it before then) - You can see your recently queued and finished downloads under "Your requests".
- You may also choose to download all available data by using the "Complete archive" on the very buttom of the sidebar.,
