    Abstract
Soil moisture datasets of 11 stations near the city Munich in Germany are provided. The measurements are taken at five different layers up to a depth of 40 cm. At some stations soil moisture of a specific layer is measured by multiple sensors. All stations of this network are situated on grassland. Meteorological data for the stations 5, 14, 16, 49, 74, 80, 115, 118 and 125 is available for free via the website of the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture (http://www.wetter-by.de/). The soil moisture network is run in cooperation with the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture. This work is carried out as part of the project SMOSHYD (FKZ 50EE0731) funded by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR).
